WORK HISTORY
YD Photos – July 2000 – Present
Defined, created and managed YD Image media agency. The core focus of YD was the marketing and sale of photographic pictures and video to all main UK ‘entertainment based’ magazines and newspapers. We also syndicated such work to foreign agents for global re-sale opportunities.
During this time I appeared on many TV and Radio stations including Sky TV, BBC, BBC News 24, BBC Radio 5, BBC Radio 2′s Jeremy Vine Show, BBC Radio Belfast, ITN, ITV’s GMTV, Channel 4′s Richard and Judy show, Channel 5 (all UK), CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC (USA), TV Asahi Fuji (Japan), APTV, Channel 9 (Australia), RTL (Germany). I created the perfect synergy between the most commercially viable pictures, video, art, music and stories with creative merit.
I was the Photo Feature Editor for DON’T Magazine, where we looked at the media from political, social, philosophical, legal and entertainment perspectives. I enjoyed working with different people and commercially viable projects, especially when projects were published or aired. I gained a great deal of experience in formulating design, from concept to completion, in a corporate environment.
• Developed flexible/effective ways of working in response to different client’s needs, with fast paced delivery that did not compromise quality.
• Managed a team of photographers
• Enhanced my self-management skills through dealing with multiple projects simultaneously, all of which were at different stages of development.
• Effectively utilised networking sites such as MySpace, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter to bring in business
• Enhanced and developed the company through dedication to new business opportunity development
• Built an amazing array of contacts for future business opportunities utilising extensive PR skills
Studio71 – Studio Manager – Aug 1996 – June 2000
Converted an empty warehouse space into a professional photographic studio which was used for creative photographic shoots for album covers, portraits, fashion, still life etc.
Having complete responsibility for Studio 71 required intensive marketing, coordination and finance management. This included the pricing of work for the varied skill-sets of talented artistic individuals. This also brought with it the continual requirement for testing a plethora of make-up artists, stylists and models which, in turn built up my ‘book’ and initiated our work being published in various fashion magazines
Tony Heagren – Photographic Assistant – July 1994 – July 1996
Tony Heagren became a top Fashion Photographer because of his desire to “interpret and express and stretch the visual boundaries”. In achieving that aim he produced work for Cosmopolitan, The Face, I-D, Elle, Marie Claire, Citizen K, both Parisian and the Italian Vogue etc. I learnt a great deal whilst assisting Tony on many of his projects. The work included, but was not restricted to, location management, communication with clients and engaging with hair, make-up artists and stylists.
Soho 601 – Post Production Runner – Nov 1993 – June 1994
Runner for Post Production house engaged, primarily, with their advertising and film clients. The role included looking after client needs round the clock and transporting film and video orders. This role facilitated the opportunity to gain vital experience and knowledge of the ‘creative’ production process, and brought valuable networking opportunities.
Barnard Marcus – Head of Commercial Investment Department – Oct 1992 – Oct 1993
Working in the Commercial Auction department of Barnard Marcus I was responsible for selling challenging commercial properties, that hadn’t previously sold at commercial auction, to property developers, business buyers and the likes. This included assessing, evaluating, documenting and photographing properties, and conducting viewings with potential buyers.
• A fast paced environment in which I developed strong client-facing and presentation skills
• Confident and experienced liaison with both Customers and Suppliers
• Accomplished in negotiation utilising market comparables, product knowledge and sales techniques
Johnson and Pycraft Property – Property Assistant – July 1988 – Sept 1992
Photographing properties, coordinating property details and producing promotional literature for the sale and rental of residential property.
